Lance joined the Mumford Company in 2004 and opened their Chicago office. A year later the office was expanded and relocated to its present location at 20 North Wacker Drive, in downtown Chicago. 2007 was a banner sales year both for the Mumford Company and for Lance.

He was involved in transactions with an aggregate value in excess of $70 million and participated in some of the highest profile deals in the company. Geographically Lance was involved in sales from New York to New Mexico, in addition to several Midwest transactions. He was awarded the "Hardest Deal of the Year" Award for 2007 by the Mumford Company.

With more than 25 years experience in the hospitality industry, Lance’s professional experience has included new hotel development with Extended Stay America (ESA) and consulting experience with Price Waterhouse and Pannell Kerr Forster. He has experience in virtually every major U.S. market and has consulted on a wide range of hotel projects, from economy level properties to luxury level hotels and resorts.

Prior to joining the Mumford Company, Lance helped the start-up lodging chain Extended Stay America (ESA) grow from a small unknown chain of 80 hotels to a nationally recognized chain of 475 hotels in just seven years. His successes with ESA included developing some of the company’s most challenging locations in southern California and the midwestern U.S. In 2000, Lance was awarded the company’s "Most Complex Deal" award for the successful acquisition and redevelopment of property in Newport Beach, California. Extended Stay America was sold to The Blackstone Group for over $3.1 billion in May, 2004.

Prior to ESA, Lance enjoyed a long tenure with Price Waterhouse (now PriceWaterhouseCoopers) as a consultant in their Real Estate Services Group. In this position Lance worked on some of the most intensive engagements of his consulting career, including the team assigned to appraise Rockefeller Center in New York City, and noteworthy consulting assignments for The Boca Raton Resort and Club, Ritz Carlton Hotels, Four Seasons Hotels and Marriott’s Desert Springs Resort.

His personal travel aspirations have taken him to every state and nearly 100 countries.

Lance is a graduate of the Hotel and Restaurant Administration Degree Program at Michigan State University and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. Following his undergraduate studies, he obtained his Master of Business Administration degree, concentrating in marketing, from The Pennsylvania State University.
